Job summary

The Regional Ophthalmology Programme in South-East Wales is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Ophthalmologist to provide clinical leadership for the Regional Ophthalmology Programme in South-East Wales.

The Regional Ophthalmology Programme in South-East Wales offers regional solutions for Eye Care across Aneurin Bevan, Cwm Taf Morgannwg and Cardiff & Vale Health Boards where this adds the most value to patients and staff. Regionalising Services ensures their sustainability and offers the best services to patients aligning with A Healthier Wales, The National Clinical Framework and Royal College of Ophthalmologists Clinical Guidance and best practice.

You will act as the strategic clinical lead for the programme with responsibility and authority for leading the clinical aspects of service development, ensuring the quality of the service, implementing service developments and supporting the negotiation of necessary funding and resources, and promoting a culture which is progressive, collaborative and innovative

Main duties of the job

This role is to provide Clinical Leadership and be accountable for Clinical Governance for the Regional Ophthalmology Programme in South East Wales. This role will work closely with the Programme Executive, Senior Responsible Officer and the Programme Manager in addition to and staff across all associated clinical disciplines in the region, including Clinical Representatives from Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff and Vale and Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Boards. This is a critical role within the programme to bring a strong Clinical voice and direction to the design and delivery of the programme across the region.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current GMC/GDC registration
  • Currently employed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in ABUHB, CAVUHB or CTMUHB
  • Evidence of continuing professional development Evidence of continued managerial professional development including regular attendance on internal and external study programmes
  • Extensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of a range of issues across the NHS and NHS patient agenda

Desirable

  • Knowledge of management and leadership best practice

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of partnership working with other areas of the Health Board, statutory partners or the voluntary sector
  • Proven record of achieving service improvement and change
  • Demonstrated experience of building, maintaining and utilising successful partnerships across organisations
  • Demonstrated experience of effective leadership of others both individuals and teams
  • Demonstrated experience of successful influencing and negotiating skills
  • A thorough understanding of clinical governance, Health and Care Standards (Wales) with a track record of improving clinical standards whilst ensuring maximum efficiency and value for money
  • Sound knowledge base of national guidance and policy relating to provision of Ophthalmology Services

Desirable

  • Proven experience of sound financial and staff management
  • Proven record of leading complex, multi-faceted change aimed at raising quality and performance across the Directorate
  • Proven experience of implementing quality improvement methodologies
