Job summary
We are looking to recruit a new Specialty Doctor into our Same
Day Emergency Care and Acute Medicine Service someone who shares a passion
for change, growth and quality improvement and who are keen to join us in our
pursuit of clinical excellence combined with innovative approaches to
person-centred care.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity and are
encouraged to identify an area of specialty interest in one of the following
areas:
Cardiology
Respiratory
Diabetes & Endocrinology
Gastroenterology
Health Care for the Elderly (including Stroke).

development opportunities and will support Specialty Doctors to enable them to
provide a first class service.

and interested in delivering care for patients in the ever-changing and
challenging environment of modern day healthcare and joining this team during
this exciting time of change.
The post holder will support the embedding of new innovated ways
and make the services at Rotherham more efficient for the patients and pathways
between both Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine. The aim of these posts is
to have integral links between departments to enable close, collaborative
working.
Main duties of the job
The
post-holder will have responsibility for Same Day Emergency Care patients and
patients within their relevant area of specialist interest.
Within
the Division of we work to our core Vision; To deliver high quality, person
centred care by the right people in the right place and time, delivered by an
empowered, compassionate and skilled workforce within a strong Quality and
Financial Governance and Assurance framework. With this in mind the approach we adopt is to run medical patients
through our SDEC with its recently expanded footprint, and through rapid
assessment by a multi-disciplinary workforce, aim to ensure that we reduce the
burden on our UECC, reduce overall Length of Stay and ensure that we meet our
core vision. SDEC is a critical
admission avoidance strategy for the Trust and this role will be important in
ensuring that we reach decisions quickly and effectively to offer the best
possible care to our patients.
SDEC is currently supported by 5 Acute Medical
consultants, a Consultant Nurse and ACP team, working between them to provide
support and senior decision making in the unit. There will be opportunity to
assist in the development of the unit and to further develop ambulatory care
pathways alongside specialty in reach and rapid assessment follow up
clinics.

Essential
- Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit
Desirable
- Relevant research published in peer review journal
Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
- Please confirm your GMC number
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full MRCP or equivalent
- ALS
Experience
Essential
- 4 years postgraduate training or equivalent in a specialty training programme or as fixed term specialty training post, or equivalent experience
Desirable
- Familiarity of Acute Medicine Service organisation and development.
- Some knowledge of utilisation of IT in clinical practice.
Ability/skills
Essential
- Acute care safe:
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
- Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
- Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
- Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
