Job summary

We are seeking a compassionate, innovative and enthusiastic Band 7 Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join the Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS), part of our‘Outstanding‘community Children’s and Young People’s Specialist services. You would be leading the development of the Speech & Language Therapy role within a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering diagnostic assessment for young people with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The role is a combination of patient facing work within the clinic, school or home environments and team leadership.You will be a core member of the leadership team supporting the needs of the service. The service is at an exciting time of development and as the band 7 Discipline Lead you will be involved in promoting the SLT role within the team.

This is a part-time post for 22.5 hours per week and will be across Norfolk; including Kings Lynn and Norwich. Bases are negotiable and flexible working is supported and includes agile/home working where relevant.

The NDS offers diagnostic assessment and a range of post diagnostic workshops to support the lives of children and young people who have suspected Neurodevelopmental disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Main duties of the job

As a Lead Speech and Language Therapist you will be leading a small multidisciplinary team. Duties will include:

  • Supporting the NDS Clinical Lead in developing the SLT pathway within service developments embedding professional standards of practice and up to date evidence base.
  • Identify future service development needs and contribute to recommendations for models of implementation.
  • Work in a timely and efficient way to meet service demands, encouraging and supporting other team members to do the same.
  • Clinical supervision, including specialist supervision around specific assessments requiring knowledge of sensory processing differences and impact on diagnostic decision making.

You will also be responsible for supporting and supervising other disciplines within the team which may include newly qualified Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses, and Assistant Practitioners.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current HCPC and RCSLT registration.
  • First level degree in Speech & Language Therapy, or equivalent experience or qualification.
  • Recognised post registration qualification in relevant speciality equivalent to master’s level or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of post graduate courses/CPD maintained portfolio.

Desirable

  • Leadership training.
  • Membership of professional body.

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of multidisciplinary working.
  • Understanding of Neurodevelopment Disorders.
  • Sound knowledge of child development.
  • Experience of service development.
  • Commitment to delivering the highest standards and quality outcomes possible, always looking for ways to improve the service for young people and their families.
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the assessment and diagnosis of Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Desirable

  • Experience of working/supporting people with neurodevelopmental differences.

  • ADOS qualified and attended ADOS training.
  • Knowledge of NICE guidance for ASD/ADHD assessment.
  • Designing or delivery of training in relevant specialist area.
