Job summary

Are you a newly qualified or early career Clinical or Counselling Psychologist interested in interventions for severe and enduing mental health conditions who would like to develop you clinical and leadership skills with a specialist psychological therapies team? If so, we have a full-time vacancy within the Bipolar Service. The post holder will assist in improving access to psychological therapies for adults with a diagnosis of bipolar or related mood conditions. The post holder will work in this specialist secondary care service, to deliver evidenced based psychological interventions, primarily the Mood on Track programme (MoT) and work with colleagues to support the Transformation of our community services. You will be supported to undertake training opportunities to develop their cognitive and family intervention skills for working with those with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and Psychosis. The post holder will contribute to national teaching and training as well as conducting research and over time be offered the opportunity to take on leadership roles aimed at improving community mental health for this client group.

Based on relevant experience, this post can either be offered at a Band 8a or a Band 7/ 8a Preceptorship. We would welcome applications from final year trainee clinical or counselling psychologists. The post is located at Tall Trees (Uffculme site) which has very good access routes and fee parking on site.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic , committed and skilled clinician to join the team in the Bipolar Service. The post holder will have excellent opportunities to gain experience of delivery of the MoT programme within the Bipolar Service and scope to develop multilevel and integrated service provision to enhance the pathway for supporting the delivery of the trustwide MoT programme.

Opportunities will include individual and group work online and face to face. This will extend to include family work (Behavioural Family Therapy, BFT), and scope to work individually to offer a CBT intervention. We offer a route to becoming formally trained (CBT Diploma) in delivering CBT for Bipolar Disorder / Psychosis. You should have experience of working with service users with mental health needs; additionally, to be familiar with the needs of a diverse BAME community and working in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation. We have an established track record in service innovation supporting a diverse range of clinical and academic interest, with time for research and teaching related activities built into many of our psychological professions job plans.

Person Specification

Training/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology
  • Significant post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment and individual and group based treatment of clients with complex difficulties across adult secondary or tertiary care settings (for 8a post).
  • Experience working in Adult Secondary or Tertiary Mental Health Services (for Preceptorship)
  • For 7 and 8a experience pre or post qualification of interventions with SEMI.
  • Experience working with Bipolar and Psychosis.
  • Experience of running group based interventions for clinical problems.
  • Skills in formulation of problems from psychological perspective and implementation of interventions appropriate for use with complex presenting problems.
  • Ability to interact with and to build and sustain relationships with people with mental health difficulties.

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications in an accredited therapy
  • CPD psychological interventions for SEMI
  • Post qualification experience and / or training in supervision
  • High level knowledge of theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • Experience of working closely with others in an MDT setting.
