Clinical Fellow in Clinical Oncology ST3-ST5 (MT04)(with on-call commitments)

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in Clinical Oncology to start in September 2026 for a period of 12 months, this post will have on-call commitments.

Appointment to this post offers excellent experience of clinical oncology for those wishing to pursue a career in this field. There is an active postgraduate teaching programme and all oncology trainees (or equivalent) are expected to attend. The department has a wide portfolio of clinical trials and an active clinical research programme. Post holders will work directly with one or more Consultant Oncologists and alongside other oncology specialist trainees. Experience in Clinical Oncology at ST level is essential. All candidates should have full registration with the GMC and MRCP or equivalent is essential at time of appointment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be one of 9 middle grade doctors in medical oncology, 18 middle grade doctors in clinical oncology, 3 speciality doctors and 11 ST1/2 level doctors in oncology. The trainee will take part in the on call rota.

Training in this post will be within the Department of Oncology at University College Hospital. The department provides comprehensive care for all types of cancer. In addition to local and regional services for the commoner tumours, it provides supraregional services for rarer tumour types including brain, sarcomas and paediatric and adolescent oncology.

The department is functionally integrated with clinical haematology which has a major practice in haematological oncology including transplant

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical degree
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent
  • GMC registration NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment having completed both PLAB1 & 2 and hold a current licence to practise.
  • Completed core medial training or equivalent

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Clinical audit experience

Desirable

  • Undergoing or completed higher specialist training in Clinical Oncology
  • Experience in clinical oncology
  • Experience of clinical trials/laboratory research

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise staff
  • Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative
  • Understanding of research methodology
  • Presentation skills
