An exciting opportunity of Apprentice Medical Physics MEMS/RES Clinical Technologist has become available to join supporting medical technology in this large central London teaching hospital Trust

Main duties of the job

Medical Physics provides a comprehensive range of scientific and technical services to all of the Trust’s main acute and community sites. The core purpose of the Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS) Section, in which this post is based, is provision of repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment, to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime. This opportunity will support operational activities across our workshops sites and you may be required to work at a different site depending on the work demand. The apprenticeship is an 18-month fixed term training contract, with the expectation of extension for a further 2 years to complete Level 4. The entry requirement for the apprenticeship is 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 minimum (must include Maths, English, Science or Technology), or other equivalent qualification. There will be a gateway assessment after 1 year, which the apprentice will need to pass in order to continue on the programme. You will need to have an appropriate qualification, technical skills and aptitude; though training, support and career development opportunities can be provided. This post would be ideally suited to an applicant able to motivate themselves from an interest in getting involved in the operations and productivity of an acute hospitals trust and having a concern for the quality of support delivered to frontline clinical services.

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 minimum (must include Maths, English, Science or Technology), or other equivalent qualification

  • Student member of IET/IPEM

  • Knowledge of electronic engineering principles, electro-mechanical systems, design principles, equipment support and repair.

  • Some experience of repairs and servicing of electronics or electromechanical devices

  • Basic level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure
