Job summary

The Harefield Hospital cardiology team is looking for a Consultant with a specialisation in Interventional Cardiology. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist cardiology services on the Harefield Hospital site, but candidates might be expected to work across all the Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites included the Royal Brompton.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive outer London teaching hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week to be negotiated between the consultant and the clinical director, and may be flexed to accommodate evolving clinical service requirements. An indicative proposed timetable is included in the job description; the workload will be a mix of ward round, cardiac catheterisation lab lists and OP clinics which will comprise of a mix of new and follow-up patients.

Final confirmation of the proposed initial timetable will be completed prior to taking up the post with the successful candidate. Flexibility will remain within the job plan to allow effective coverage of procedural and clinic commitments and the timetable will be variable week on week.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training:

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification Full GMC Registration Entry on the Specialist Register as holding a CCT in Cardiology or equivalent Full training in interventional cardiology

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Expertise and Experience in the full range of interventional cardiology including the treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction
  • Recent ALS or ILS course Sub-specialist interest within interventional cardiology
  • Participation in a recognised scheme of continuing medical education

Desirable

  • Teaching experience at national level

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of invasive cardiology
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in line with the Trust’s Core Behavious
  • Sound knowledge of radiation protection matters in invasive cardiology
  • Evidence of participation in service improvement projects

Desirable

  • Experience of managing and developing an interventional cardiology service
