Job Title: Locum Colorectal Consultant Surgeon(Fixed term from 1.10.2026 until 30.09.2027)

Salary: £113,565 per annum -£150,569 per annum

Programmed Activities: 10PA

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to work closely within the current Colorectal multi-disciplinary team and also with colleagues across the Trust and externally.

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.

To share the responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the Colorectal and Emergency General Surgical service.

Teaching and training of Junior Staff and Medical Students.

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical

Governance and Audit.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

To participate in the ~ 1:12 undifferentiated General Surgical on-call rota

Person Specification

Qualifications/Registration

Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration and licence
  • Full JAG accreditation

Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • Specialist Register of the GMC
  • Completion certificate of training or equivalent

Experience/Training

Essential

  • Ability to independently partake in an undifferentiated general surgical on call rota
  • Able to deliver a consultant level colorectal practice of malignant and benign conditions.

Desirable

  • Consultant level experience
  • Experience in setting up a clinical service
  • NHS Experience
  • Endometriosis experience
  • Pelvic floor experience
  • Robotic Surgery experience
  • Abdominal wall reconstruction experience

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice

Clinical Skills

  • Independent operative management of benign and cancer colorectal conditions
  • In-patient and Out-patient Care
  • Experience in the multi-disciplinary management of patients
  • Understanding of clinical risk management

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
  • Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

  • To motivate and develop both medical staff and non-medical staff
