NorthCare Charity is the official charity of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), supporting over 20,000 staff who deliver hospital and community healthcare services across Salford, Oldham, Bury and Rochdale. We raise funds to enhance care and experiences for patients, their families and the NHS colleagues who care for them.

As our Communications and Impact Officer, you will play a key role in bringing our work to life. You will create engaging content, write compelling stories and design impactful communications that showcase the difference donations make, helping to inspire support and raise awareness of the charity.

Working closely with the fundraising team and colleagues across the NCA, you will support campaigns, events and appeals, ensuring our communications reach the right audiences and have maximum impact. This is a varied and creative role, where you’ll manage digital channels, develop content across multiple platforms and help shape how we communicate our impact.

We are looking for someone who is creative, proactive and passionate about storytelling, with the ability to build strong relationships and bring ideas to life. This is a home-based role with regular travel across NCA sites and involvement in events and activities as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Create engaging content across a range of channels, including social media, website and internal communications, helping to bring NorthCare Charity’s work to life
  • Write compelling stories and case studies that showcase the impact of donations on patients, families and NHS colleagues
  • Design eye-catching and high-quality communications materials to support campaigns, events and fundraising activity
  • Manage and develop the charity’s digital channels, growing reach, engagement and opportunities to support fundraising
  • Work closely with the fundraising team to promote campaigns, events and appeals, ensuring maximum visibility and impact
  • Build relationships across the NCA to identify and develop impactful stories and content opportunities
  • Support media activity, helping to raise the profile of the charity across local and regional channels
  • Celebrate and recognise supporters, fundraisers and partners through creative and engaging communications
  • Monitor and report on communications activity, using insight to continuously improve performance
  • Attend events and activities where required to capture content and support engagement

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Marketing, PR, Journalism or Communications qualification, or relevant qualification/training in digital marketing, social media, media or communications

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in communications, PR or marketing
  • Experience of managing communications activity across a range of channels, including digital, internal and on-site communications (e.g. posters, displays and visual communications within hospitals or other public environments)
  • Experience of managing social media platforms and creating engaging content
  • Experience of developing content across a range of channels (digital, internal and media)
  • Experience of creating engaging written content for different audiences, including internal communications
  • Experience of planning and delivering communications activity, including contributing to or developing communications plans
  • Experience of developing creative and engaging communications approaches and working proactively with stakeholders
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of working to deadlines and managing competing priorities

  • Experience in a charity or NHS environment
  • Experience of developing or using case studies and storytelling to demonstrate impact
  • Experience of supporting communications for campaigns, events or fundraising activity

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to plan and deliver communications activity, including contributing to communications plans and campaigns
  • Ability to develop creative and engaging approaches to communications and proactively identify opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Confident in engaging with colleagues across a range of settings, including hospital sites, and able to work across organisational boundaries
  • Strong IT and digital skills, including the ability to use a range of platforms and tools to support communications activity
