We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Team Lead for our Early Supported Discharge Orthopaedic Service. This is a well established, dedicated team supporting discharges across the county from our Trauma and orthopaedic services. This is a fixed term post and supports the secondment of the current team lead on a part time basis, so the successful applicant will work as a job share with the current team lead.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a team leader role for the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Team in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the ESD service provided to patients with rehabilitation needs on a day-to-day basis, in conjunction with the current Team Lead

To deliver a high standard Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy service to patients referred to the service.

To provide highly specialist assessment, treatment, education and goal setting of patients in their own home with flexibility to in reach to the Trauma and Orthopaedics wards (including at weekends). Some patients may have complex and/or chronic presentations. To determine clinical diagnosis and Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy treatment indicated. To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

To provide clinical cross cover within your team.

To attend service level discussions / meetings relating to your area of work as delegated by the Therapy Lead – Trauma and Orthopaedics.

To work flexibly with Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Leads for Trauma and Orthopaedics to support flexible use of the workforce during times of high pressure.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

• Degree in Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy or equivalent
• HCPC registered
• Evidence of further formal study e.g. Post Graduate qualifications, (Post grad Certificate/ Diploma, Masters modules
• Good understanding of roles with Multidisciplinary Team.
• An awareness of research and evidence based practice within Trauma and Orthopaedics
• Shows a commitment to working at RCHT

Desirable

• Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups
• Membership of the CSP or College of Occupational Therapy
• Evidence of post-graduate education and development

Skills

Essential

• High levels of skill and experience of leading/ supervising a team of people including qualified and unqualified staff.
• Up-to-date clinical skills in Trauma and Orthopaedics
• Highly Specialist level assessment skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Analytical thinker and Reflective practitioner
• Good teaching ability/ education experience (formal or informal)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable

• Car Driver with vehicle insured for business purposes
• Own transport to carry out patient treatment sessions in patients’ homes

Experience

Essential

• Substantial post qualification experience
• Comprehensive experience across the acute and community hospital settings
• Extensive experience of working within a multidisciplinary
• Experience of managing the risks associated with unsupervised / lone working e.g. home visits
• Comprehensive experience as a clinical educator of therapy students
• Evidence of clinical audit/research activity

Desirable

• Experience working in an NHS setting in the following clinical areas: Trauma and Orthopaedics, Elective Orthopaedics, ESD Orthopaedics
• Experience working in the community setting
