Within our 14 theatres at Basildon & Orsett Hospitals, we deliver a wide range of surgical specialities including Upper and Lower GI, Vascular, Urology, Gynaecology, Breast, Obstetrics, Maxillofacial, ENT, Trauma and Emergency, Orthopaedics, Head and Neck, Pain Management Surgery, and Elective and Emergency C-sections.
We are looking for enthusiastic Staff Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) who bring strong clinical knowledge, established theatre skills, or a real desire to develop into a Theatre Practitioner role.
Ideally, you will already have theatre experience and be confident in delivering high-quality care within the perioperative setting. However, we also welcome applications from newly registered practitioners or those seeking an exciting new career direction. With comprehensive training and development programmes, we will support you to gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive.

Main duties of the job
If successful you will be fully supported on our development programme until you are able to undertake the full range of duties, which include:
Ensuring all patients receive the highest possible standard of care, supported by evidence-based practice.
Taking part in cross-site rotation to meet the needs of the service on 24-hour basis.
Taking charge of a clinical area on a regular basis following successful completion of a development programme.
Working within the multi-disciplinary team ensuring good professional relationships.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse NMC or ODP HCPC
Desirable
- Post registration qualification for day surgery or theatre practice or with relevant level of clinical experience demonstrating ability to work without clinical supervision in a specialist area of theatre or day surgery
- PRACTICE SUPERVISOR AND ASSESSOR TRAINING
Skills
Essential
- IT literate – e.g. has used Microsoft suite in previous roles
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience working in NHS or Acute care setting
Desirable
- Previous experience of working on a surgical ward or within a surgical environment
