Job summary

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is the Lead Provider of Toucan, the West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative, which delivers integrated specialist mental health, learning disability and autism services for young people across the region. Integrated Residential Outreach Care (IROC) provides a trauma-informed, multi-agency service for children and young people with complex needs living in residential settings and subject to a Deprivation of Liberty Order (DOLO). The Clinical Psychologist will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for young people, families and professionals, while contributing to consultation, service development, staff support, training, research and multidisciplinary working. The post offers an exciting opportunity to improve outcomes for some of the most vulnerable young people in the West Midlands through collaborative, psychologically informed care.

Main duties of the job

Main duties will be to provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for children and young people with complex mental health, emotional and behavioural needs living in residential settings. The post holder will work collaboratively with families, carers and multidisciplinary professionals, offering consultation, specialist advice and psychological leadership to support trauma-informed practice. Responsibilities will also include managing a complex caseload, contributing to care planning and service development, providing training and supervision, participating in clinical governance activities, and undertaking research, audit and quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people across the West Midlands.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Clinical Psychologist eligible for chartered status
  • Registration with appropriate body (eg HCPC, ACP, BACP, AFT)

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of working with children, adolescents and their families with mental health needs
  • Experience of providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment for clients across the full range of mental health settings to include outpatient, community, day services and in-patient settings.
