Locum Consultant Radiologist Specialist Interest in Breast imaging: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

This is a 1-year fixed term locum consultant breast radiologist post to start as soon as possible from mid-August 2026. There is the potential for this to become a substantive position after 1 year.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 5 consultant breast radiologists and one consultant radiographer. The appointed candidate would be expected to support the One Stop Clinics as well as undertake mammography, breast MRI reporting and breast interventional procedures. These include pre-operative wire and seed localization as well as stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsy. Experience in vacuum assisted breast biopsy is highly desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The current job plan supports a full-time 10 PA substantive consultant post at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust. Applications are welcomed from candidates wishing to work less than full time or those interested in job-sharing arrangements.

Applicants should have broad experience in general radiology, with specialist interests in Breast Imaging . Competence in general CT and MRI reporting is essential, alongside the ability to contribute to relevant Breast Cancer MDTs, participate in hot reporting, and undertake duty radiologist sessions.

It is anticipated that remote access will be available for all consultants to support home working, in line with the implementation of the regional RIS/PACS system.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology (or within 6 months of CCT)
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Higher postgraduate degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in general radiology with competence in CT and MRI reporting
  • Experience contributing to Breast Cancer MDTs
  • Experience in acute imaging, including hot reporting or equivalent service provision
  • Experience in Mammography reporting
  • Experience in Breast MRI reporting
  • Experience in breast intervention

Desirable

  • Experience One Stop Clinics as well as undertake mammography, breast MRI reporting and breast interventional procedures
  • Experience in service development, pathway redesign, or quality improvement initiatives

Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement principles
  • Knowledge of clinical radiology practice and evidence-based imaging Familiarity with Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) standards and guidance

Desirable

  • Awareness of national targets and pathways (e.g. cancer pathways)
  • Knowledge of digital transformation in radiology, including RIS/PACS and AI applications

  • Commitment to CPD and maintaining professional standards
  • Flexible approach to working, including participation in on-call rota and remote reporting where appropriate

Desirable

  • Experience of working across multiple sites or within a networked radiology service

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing clinical demands
  • Competence in vetting imaging requests and providing clinical advice to referrers
  • Proficient in IT systems including RIS/PACS and standard Microsoft applications

Desirable

  • Understanding of radiology workforce challenges, service delivery models, and demand/capacity pressures
