An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the Minor Injury Unit at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Kidderminster MIU is a busy department open from 8am until 10pm, seven days a week, seeing over 26,000 patients a year.
We are seeking an individual to join our friendly well-established team. The job role requires a friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated individual who will work as an Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner, providing minor injury assessment and treatments to the patients attending MIU.
Full time and part time hours avalible. The shift pattern consists of 7.30am- 8pm and 10am -10.30pm, over weekdays and weekends.
Main duties of the job
The Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner will
work as an autonomous clinician within a nurse led Minor Injury Unit without
reference to a doctor, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and
management of patients presenting with minor injuries. They will be part of a
team of nursing, medical and allied professionals leading in the delivery of a
high-quality service to patients presenting with minor injuries.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or equivalent professional registration (paramedic).
- Post-registration qualification in Minor Injuries and/or Minor illness.
- Teaching/Mentorship qualification or NHS Trust Assessor/Supervisor training.
- Non-medical Xray referrer and up to date IRMER.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
- Independent/Non-medical Prescriber (V300).
- Evidence of management training or equivalent experience.
- Manchester Triage Training.
- Qualification in Minor Illness management.
Knowledge and skills
Essential
- Advanced assessment, history-taking, and diagnostic reasoning skills.
- Competent in clinical decision-making and safe prescribing.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and manage competing demands.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, governance, and risk management.
- IT literacy, including use of electronic patient record systems.
- Evidence of extended skills: suturing & wound closure.
- Application of plaster casts. Manipulation of fractures.
- Relocation of subluxation .
- Venepuncture/cannulation.
- ECG recording & interpretation.
- X-ray requesting and interpretation.
- Knowledge of person-centred care. Awareness of Equality, Diversity and Cultural differences.
- Knowledge of the individuals responsibility towards health and safety. Aware of infection control measures.
- In-depth knowledge and awareness of safeguarding for adults and children. Able to produce written reports and articulate concerns regarding patient care/safety issues.
Desirable
- Following computer skills: Sunrise, PAS, ICE, PACS, Summary Care Records.
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience in Emergency/Urgent Care/Minor Injury unit.
- Demonstrable experience in autonomous decision-making and patient management.
- Experience supervising and supporting junior staff or students.
- Evidence of involvement in audit, service development, or quality improvement.
Desirable
- Previous leadership or management experience within urgent/emergency care.
- Experience in research or guideline development.
- Complaints handling.
