This is an opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking team as we develop our services, enhance patient flow and create new ways of working across both our Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit (MIU). As one of only two Major Trauma Centres for the South West and as regional specialists for services such as stroke, vascular and renal transplantation, you will have the opportunity to work closely with highly specialised multidisciplinary teams providing advanced practice exposure whilst retaining a culture of teamwork. Boasting the best trauma survival rates in England and Wales, our modern, purpose-built Emergency Department offers opportunities to continue developing clinically within a department that actively prioritises staff wellbeing. The Emergency Department sits within the hospitals Emergency zone which includes the Acute Medical and Acute Frailty units. The Emergency Depart comprises of 6 resus spaces, 14 majors cubicles and an ambulance offloading area, an ambulatory care unit, and a Minor injury Unit along with a ground level helipad. Main duties of the job

You will be expected to function effectively in a fast paced and constantly changing environment without compromising essential standards of care and professionalism. The post holder will:

• Work within a clinical care team.
• Take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code of Professional conduct.
• Be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of patient care.
• Take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including healthcare support workers and students on a daily basis.
• Actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of mentor/assessor for learners eg. Student nurses and support worker roles

Person Specification

Work experience

Essential

• A minimum of 12 months recent, post registration experience in an acute environment (ward area)
• Candidate will have undertaken training required by the ward/ department. i.e. IV drug administration, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, male catheterisation

Desirable

• Experience of working in an emergency department

Education & training

Essential

• Registered Nurse/ Paediatric Nurse with current live NMC registration
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

• Interest in student/peer education

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

• Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping.
• Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service i.e. IHS, Acis, Email use
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Sound knowledge of the guidelines set out in the NMC code of professional conduct and current nursing Issues
