Job summary
Locum Consultant Psychiatrist – Adult Inpatient Services
Full Time 10PAs
The Trust is seeking to appoint an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to work in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (P.I.C.U.) on Ward 1 to cover a one year maternity leave of the current post holder. This is an established post based at Springfield Hospital, in Tooting, London SW17.
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic consultant psychiatrist to join this friendly ward team.
We are a progressive, financially stable mental health trust which has been rated ‘good’ by the CQC both overall and specifically for our acute & urgent care services.
The Acute & Urgent Care Service Line comprises Acute General Psychiatric Wards on two hospital sites, intensive care unit, a psychiatric decision unit, acute care co-ordination and advanced clinical practice teams, home treatment and street triage teams, perinatal psychiatry, liaison psychiatric teams at three general hospitals, and two recovery cafs. All our clinicians are able to participate in a Trustwide quality improvement programme.
We are investing in further improvements to our mental health services, including a major redevelopment programme on both the Springfield and Tolworth sites.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide medical leadership on Ward 1. The Consultant will work closely with the Ward Manager to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators.
While individual clinicians within the team have responsibility for the clinical care they deliver, the consultant shares with the ward manager and other team members responsibility for ensuring the care delivered by the team is safe and of a good standard. This includes participating in systems of audit and clinical governance, working to resolve problems on their own initiative, and where necessary drawing any concerns they have been unable to resolve themselves to the attention of the ward manager and others.
