Locum Consultant in Allergy: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

This advert is for a 1.0WTE Consultant in Allergy based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (QMC Campus).

This appointment will be on the terms and conditions of the extant NHS Consultant contract. The contract is for a fixed 12 month period.

The successful candidate will be on the Full and Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. It is expected that the appointee will hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) or Pathologists (FRCPath).

Main duties of the job

The appointee, in collaboration with the other consultants, will be expected to fulfil the duties within the agreed Job Plan.

Summary of Duties:

1. participation in the provision of a clinical service in the diagnosis and management of patients with allergic disease. This may occasionally require review of individual patients on the wards or discussion with colleagues outside NUH, for example in other Trusts or in primary care.
2. cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
3. professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, nursing staff, specialist pharmacist, dietitian, STPs and clinical scientists where required
4. responsibility for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity locally and nationally.
5. participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD.
6. involvement in research, as appropriate to job plan
7. a willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, or national levels.
8. the post holder must at all times carry out their duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

Person Specification

Professional Registration/ qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC registration
• MRCP/MRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

• Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register within 6 months

Clinical Skills/Experience

Essential

• Experience in allergy including food, drug and venom allergy, rhinitis and urticaria
• Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and the wider MD

Desirable

• Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors/ communication skills
• Experience in drug allergy testing and challenge

Management Skills

Essential

• Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
• Able to work as a team and delegate when appropriate

Desirable

• Higher management degree or qualification or training
• Experience of change management

Personal Skills/Qualities

Essential

• Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
• Able to use the Trust’s IT support systems

Teaching, Audit & Research

Essential

• Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit
• Able to teach and support junior/wider MDT effectively

Desirable

• Original Research Publications
