Thisnewly created post offers a unique opportunity to support our newly redesigned initial assessment neurodevelopmental pathway aiming to reduce the waiting time for autism assessment.You will play a pivotal role in shaping early intervention and improving outcomes for young children and their families.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post and would suit a consultant who is wishing to develop their role within a department that has a broad range of community paediatric experience. The post holder will work in all aspects of Community Paediatrics, suite to their experience, competencies and the priorities of service provision.

There is no overnight commitment. The postholders will contribute to the daytime child protection rota, but there is no expectation to contribute to Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) medicals.

The postholder will join a team of 9 Consultant Community Paediatricians, 2 community SAS doctors and one Speciality Doctor. Senior therapists and clinical nurse specialist also contribute to assessments and care for young

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
  • Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and child health or equivalent
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT and be on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

Desirable

  • Grid training in community paediatrics
  • MSc /Diploma in community child health or relevant subject

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive Training and experience in community paediatrics
  • Evidence of training and experience gained obtaining CCT in Community Child Health (CCH) or if CCT in General Paediatrics, must be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies required for CCT in CCH have been achieved
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Community Child Health including Neuro-developmental paediatrics, Safeguarding, Looked after children
  • Training and experience in the identification and management of suspected child abuse
  • Clinical experience in the field of safeguarding and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people and the court process
  • Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people and families and children in challenging situations.
  • Valid BLS and NLS training
  • Valid level 3 safeguarding training

Desirable

  • Training and experience in assessment of ADHD Experience
  • Experience of lead role in an area of child health
  • Broad experience of working within the NHS

Clinical Audit

Essential

  • Active audit interest demonstrated by at least one completed clinical audit in the last year.
  • Understanding of NHS systems and audit processes
  • Evidence of service improvement projects and audits

Desirable

  • Publication of audit results.
  • Experience in service development and quality improvement projects relating to Community Child Health
  • Evidence of involvement and /or experience in risk processes such as Serious Incident reviews and patient safety systems

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching
  • Skill and ability in formal and informal teaching for both under/ postgraduate students and nursing/midwifery staff
  • Educational supervision accreditation

Desirable

  • An understanding of current issues in medical education and training
  • Previous experience in trainee Supervision
  • Knowledge of current changes in paediatric training
  • Higher teaching qualification
  • Presentations at National or International meetings
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Understands the management structure of the NHS Evidence of risk management

IT Skills

Essential

  • Ability to use Microsoft office packages, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use patient information systems
