Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and skilled Associate Director of Public Health/Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine NWJCC in a permanent role.

We are looking for a forward-thinker with drive and strong leadership skills to both help shape the All Wales public health agenda and inform decisions which will impact on the health and wellbeing of the population.

Your role will involve strategic senior public health leadership, to shape the national commissioning of public health specialist services in Wales, delivered through the Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC). The successful candidate will also need to provide expert leadership to ensure that commissioned services are equitable, sustainable, and responsive to the health needs of the population of Wales.

You will work closely with colleagues both within the NWJCC and across Wales to maximise public health outcomes and will have experience of working with a wide range of partners and organisations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder may work in any area of professional public health practice, as required at the time. They will provide expert public health support and advice across a range of areas that will include:

Health Improvement.

Health Care Quality and Improvement.

Health Protection.

Health Intelligence.

Research and Development.

Contribute to population health advice to the pan Wales Local Authorities.

Contribute to the strategic planning of partner organisations, including the Public Services Board(s).

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

  • MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment
  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine practice
  • High level of understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation
  • Knowledge of methods of developing clinical quality assurance and evidence based clinical practice
  • Knowledge of NHS information, and its interpretation
  • Knowledge of wider determinants of health, information and its interpretation
  • Understanding of social and political environment
  • Understanding of local authorities and social services
  • Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
