Job summary

Working under the direct supervision of the practice
nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and
protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in
the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

Duties and
responsibilities:

To assist in and perform routine tasks related
to patient care, as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Duties to
include;

New
patient medicals

Annual
reviews

Urinalysis

ECGs

Peak
flow readings

24
hr BP

Venepuncture

Blood
pressure measurements

Routine
immunisations, B12, Influenza, Pneumo, Shingles

Spirometry

Diabetic
Foot checks

Chaperoning
and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another
clinician

Requesting
basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Following
agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Smoking Cessation

Processing and management of laboratory
samples requested by GPs/nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring
and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine
re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting
rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments
and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assisting in the assessment and
surveillance of patients health and well-being

Helping to raise awareness of health
and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and
collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Any other duties within skill set that may come
about

Qualifications

Desirable

  • Able to perform all duties in the job description is essential and previous role in GP practice essential

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a HCA in GP practice desirable

Desirable

  • Working in primary care desirable
