Job summary

This is a full time Consultant Medical Retina and Uveitis position.

(10 PA sessions per week).

You will be responsible for patients from Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust which consists of Multiple sites. Whilst your base will be Broomfield Hospital you will run clinics and theatre lists serving patients from all of the Mid and South Essex areas. You will be expected to run both face-to-face and virtual clinics.

You will supervise juniors and fellows in clinic (face to face and virtual) and theatre. You will have the opportunity to develop the service and take part in research, liaising with Anglia Ruskin University. Teaching takes place every Thursday afternoon.

The post holder will work with the friendly and enthusiastic team to deliver general and sub specialty MR and uveitis services for Mid and South Essex patients.

You will be expected to set up and develop uveitis clinics and collaborate with other Medical specialities.

On Call commitment:

There is a 1:8 Category B (low frequency) 2% Consultant on call commitment associated with this post.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant will, in conjunction with colleagues:

  • Provide theatre cover
  • Provide an Ophthalmic service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan.
  • Provide 1 in 8 on call cover
  • Supervise trainee staff within the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Completion of FRCO phth or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the GMC
  • Holder of Certificate of completion of Training (CTT) , or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
  • Eligile for specialist registration within six months of interview
