Job summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. This post is offered from March 2026 within the ED of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The post comprises 10 programmed activities with a commitment to 1:6 weekends on duty for the ED.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a friendly and dedicated team of 10 Consultants, 6 Specialty Doctors/Senior Clinical Fellows, 4 senior Specialist Trainees (from Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics), 9 ST2/3s, 2 GPVTS trainees and 2 Teaching Fellows. We are also proud of our ongoing development of Advanced Nursing Practice within the ED. As a university teaching hospital, we provide excellent opportunities for education, and there is an active research programme within our department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oFull GMC Registration
  • oMBChB or equivalent
  • oMRCPH/FRCEM or equivalent oOn GMC Specialist Register with CCT in Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics or be within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview oPaediatric candidates should have evidence of Grid or equivalent training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine oEmergency Medicine Candidates should have Paediatric subspecialty training
  • oEntry on the GMC Specialist Register via Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR): you may apply if your CESR application has been submitted and you will be on Specialist Register by the interview date. If not on Specialist Register by the date of interview you won’t meet the essential criteria and therefore can’t be interviewed for the substantive role

Desirable

  • oHigher Degree (MD, PhD, etc)

Experience

Essential

  • oAppropriate progression of career to date
  • oExperience in clinical teaching
  • oLevel 3 Child Protection training
  • oBy the time of appointment, has attended a recent Training the Trainers course
  • oMinimum 8 years postgraduate experience
