The Clinical Coding Department at Liverpool Women’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Accredited Clinical Coder to join our supportive and skilled team.

We operate a flexible working policy with core hours from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 15:00, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, team members have the freedom to organise their own working hours, supporting a healthy work-life balance. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing accurate and comprehensive clinical coding within the timescales agreed upon by the Trust and its partner organisations. They will be as subject matter experts for the specialties within the Trust.

In addition, they will assist the Clinical Coding & Data Quality Manager in monitoring daily worklists and offering guidance and mentorship to less experienced clinical coders.

A key aspect of this role involves handling inquiries related to the clinical coding process, collaborating with senior clinical staff, performing data quality checks, and participating in multidisciplinary meetings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • ACC qualification

Desirable

  • Supervisory Management Qualification or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years continuous experience as a Clinical Coder
  • Experience in supporting staff new to the coding process

Desirable

  • Experience of supervising staff

Knowledge

Essential

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Clinical Coding process including the purpose and uses of coded data, NHSE clinical coding standards
  • Knowledge of PAS systems
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and email systems (including Outlook/Groupwise)
  • Understanding of Healthcare Resource Groups – how they are assigned and used
  • Understanding of Financial Flows and why Clinical Coding is crucial to its success
  • Understanding of the Clinical Coding elements of Data Quality Indicator scores
  • Ability to prioritise and delegate work in accordance with Business needs

Desirable

  • Experience coding obstetrics, gynaecology, and neonatal specialties
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development e.g. attendance at specialist coding workshops
  • Ability to motivate and supervise staff to achieve Trust Targets
