Job summary

We are recruiting a full-time fixed term (24 months) Psychological
Interventions Practitioner to join our Psychological Interventions (PI) Team,
working with adults with learning disabilities across Worcestershire. We are
looking for a registered professional who is skilled in positive behaviour support,
with a passion for improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and
their carers.

This is a fixed term post to provide cover for absence for specific
purpose that we anticipate will be required for 24 months. We reserve the right to end this contract
sooner with appropriate notice.

Our team includes clinical and counselling psychologists,
behavioural specialists and an assistant practitioner and we are part of a
wider multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT). The team
provides a safe and supportive environment to work in, encouraging team members
to use their specialist skills creatively to meet our service-users complex
needs. Our team meets regularly and we have a structured programme of CPD and
reflective practice. There will be flexibility in agreeing a working pattern
and official work-base, with some working from home.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will carry out evidence-based assessment and
intervention for adults with learning disabilities who present with psychological
and behavioural distress, holding a caseload of people with a range of needs. There
will be an emphasis on Positive Behaviour Support and work will be with individuals,
families and carers to improve their quality of life. The role will involve
offering consultation to members of the MDT and other agencies as well as
bespoke person-centred training.

The postholder will join the PI team in making referral
decisions, reflecting on cases and contributing to team CPD. They will promote knowledge
about well-being and positive mental health in people with learning
disabilities and those who support them. As part of the PI team, they will
represent the team in various forums in the wider learning disability service. They
will have an individual development plan, which will identify other aspects of
the post and we are happy to discuss this.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification RNLD, OT, SLT, Social Worker, RMN etc.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Positive Behaviour Support or mental health issues in learning disabilities or relevant further training or experience.
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Desirable

  • Specific training in areas such as:
  • Positive Behavioural Support.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience working with people with learning disabilities and behavioural/mental health needs that challenge services.
  • Experience of assessment and delivery of therapeutic interventions with people with learning disabilities and their families.
  • Provision of consultation to other agencies around psychological interventions.
  • Assessment and management of risk.
