Job summary
This is a unique 36-month Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship opportunity to work and train within the Radiotherapy Department at University College Hospital London, in the heart of central London. You will complete the Level 6 BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Hertfordshire. The role involves direct contact with patients and their families, alongside working closely with medical, nursing, physics and wider multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will be embedded within the Radiotherapy department working 80% of their hours alongside the team, and study with the University of Hertfordshire for the remainder of their time. Upon completion of the three-year course, they will gain a BSc Honours in Therapeutic Radiography and be eligible for professional registration with the HCPC. This fully funded programme allows the applicant to study and earn a wage at the same time, with extensive workplace learning and practice, supported by academic learning at the University and through distance learning, and self-study.
UCLH are looking for candidates who are flexible, adaptable and patient focussed, aiming to deliver the highest standards of clinical care. They will work alongside experienced Therapeutic Radiographers and the wider multidisciplinary team, developing skills in patient care, communication, anatomy, physiology, radiotherapy physics and radiation protection. As their knowledge and confidence develop, they will take increasing responsibility for delivering treatment safely and effectively, supported by experienced clinical staff.

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
- 5 CGSEs grade C or above to include Maths and English (or equivalent). These will be requested before being invited to an assessment.
- University entry requirements: 3 A levels or Equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma or NVQ Level 3 – in science related subjects (physics, biology or chemistry)
- On entry into programme: Demonstrate a willingness to undertake the radiographer practitioner degree apprenticeship course to gain professional registration with HCPC (Failure to achieve this would result in termination of contract)
- Be able to demonstrate continuous professional development.
- Please note on successful completion of the three year apprenticeship programme the post holder will achieve a BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography degree.
- Apprentices whose first language is not English need to meet IELTS requirements of at least 7.0 overall and no less than 6.5 in any other section

- Good understanding of legislation relating to Health and Safety and radiation protection
Experience

- Evidence of interest in radiotherapy and its application in healthcare
- Able to use Microsoft Office. Able to use hospital ICT systems

- Recent clinical experience working in the radiotherapy department
- Recent experience of working with service users within the healthcare setting
- Experience in carrying out assigned duties /assisting qualified radiotherapy staff
