An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ultrasound team at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation trust, serving the populations of Warwick, Leamington Spa, Stratford upon Avon and the surrounding area. The main hospital site is based in Warwick, but there are smaller community hospitals in Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa.

Development of the Ultrasound department means that we are looking for Advanced practitioners in Ultrasoundto join our team. The successful candidate should hold a Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound from a CASE accredited institution and is expected to be HCPC / NMC registered or on the Voluntary register of sonographers held by the Register of Clinical Technologists.

The successful applicant will join the team of sonographers rotating through all clinical areas and sites across the trust, a flexible approach to work is essential working across 3 sites and to be part of a team working an extended day and weekend sessions to improve service needs and patient flow.

You will be responsible for carrying out and independently reporting on Ultrasound examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner.

Main duties of the job

To perform ultrasound examinations and independently report those examinations according to the modalities in which qualified and recognised by a Post Graduate qualification in Ultrasound from an accredited university.

To take part in the practical and clinical teaching of student sonographers

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to DCR or degree level or equivalent with qualification obtained
  • Evidence of CPD during training and thereafter for maintenance of skill level
  • Hold a PostGraduate Certificate or Diploma in ultrasound from accredited university
  • State Registered

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of a range of ultrasound procedures from the group listed below: Obstetrics (to include EPAU), Gynaecology, General Medical, Small parts, MSK, Paediatric, Vascular
  • Previous NHS experience working as an Advanced Practitioner In Ultrasound.

Skills

Essential

  • Independently reports examinations as above
  • Responsible for own daily workload but has ability to prioritise section workload if required
  • Experience of broad range of equipment and has ability to manipulate equipment and scanning controls safely on a regular basis
  • Excellent communicator – verbal & written. Must be able to handle sensitive situations and communicate effectively with patients and relatives
  • Supervises non-qualified/qualified staff e.g. students, assistants, registrars
  • Acts as a mentor or trainer to ultrasound students

Desirable

  • Willing to develop ultrasound skills in other clinical areas

  • Team Player – able to contribute on a regular basis to : R+D, Audit, Patient management/ care, Updating of clinical policies and protocols
  • Able to work single handed
