Job summary

We are actively seeking three locum consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeons. The department would expect appropriate fellowship training or previous experience in the areas of major trauma, orthopaedic trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery.

You will join a dynamic team at the Peninsula Trauma Centre which is part of an expanding university teaching hospital in Britain’s Ocean City. This is an opportunity to live and work in one of the most attractive parts of England. There is easy access to both coasts of Devon and Cornwall with beautiful beaches and we are in close proximity to Dartmoor National Park, the Tamar Valley and South Hams. Good transport links exist to London and the rest of the country with an international airport situated close by in Exeter that serves most of Europe. There are excellent local schools.

Main duties of the job

These posts are an additional appointment and the successful candidate would contribute to the major trauma and orthopaedic trauma services.

The successful candidate will be employed by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPT) which is closely associated with Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPMED). The successful candidate will be based in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department where there are numerous teaching and growing research opportunities in collaboration with PUPMED and the clinical trials unit. Education, qualifications & special training

Essential

  • oFull GMC Registration oEuropean Community Rights oAn appropriate higher surgical qualification. ETC provider (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Higher degree. DCOTS Course

Particular skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience of trauma and relevant sub-specialty surgery at specialist registrar level or equivalent. Appropriate fellowship or equivalent experience. Ability to lead a team.

Desirable

  • Broad and deep experience of trauma and relevant sub-specialty surgery. Understanding of NHS. Good time management.

Research & clinical audit

  • Contemporaneous publications in peer reviewed journals. Contemporaneous presentations at national/international congress Evidence of clinical audit.
