Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Part Time / 8PA’s Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Myeloma at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Main duties of the job

With respect to this post, the appointee will work within a team dedicated to state-of-the-art and comprehensive management of plasma cell neoplasms (Myeloma, Plasmacytoma and Type AL Amyloid) including delivery of both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant and CAR T cell therapy. The Myeloma team also looks after patients with Aplastic Anaemia and patients with Autoimmune + Neurological disorders undergoing intensive Haematology treatments.

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, contribute to the provision of inpatient, day case and outpatient haemato-oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (as per JACIE standards).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Name on the specialist register for Haematology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP/FRCP and FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Management and Administration

Essential

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Personal attributes

Essential

  • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values .
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).

Reserach

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
  • A higher degree [or is preparing for submission for a higher degree]. Is research active

Teaching and training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Specialist training in the clinical management of hematological disorders.
  • Experience of working within the UK National Health Service
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Haematology.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.
