Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+) CESR preparation programme in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.
There are two posts available from 03 February 2027, for a period of 36 months.
Post one: 12 months at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (Harlow), followed by 2 years at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Post two: 36 months at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
This 36 month fellowship programme in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care is aimed at applicants who are planning to apply for equivalence through the CESR process/ portfolio pathway for Anaesthetics.
There are 42 operating theatres in total of which there are 26 in the main theatre block, 6 in the Addenbrookes Treatment Centre, and others in Ely Day Surgery Unit, Cambridge Eye Unit, Cambridge Movement and surgical Hub and the Rosie Maternity Unit. In addition the Anaesthetic department is responsible for providing Anaesthetic services in a number of other areas across the trust e.g. Endoscopy, Radiology, Paediatric Day Unit, post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) etc.
We also have a well-established perioperative medicine unit with regular specialist multidisciplinary state of the art clinics for frail and elderly patients. There is currently substantial work being undertaken in the development of patient pathways across the whole patient journey for elective and emergency care.

Essential
- Full FRCA or equivalent qualification
- Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the GMC at time of application
- At least 5 years of experience in anaesthesia
- At least 1 year of experience working in anaesthesia in the United Kingdom
- Completed Specialty Registrar or equivalent training to ST6 level passing the associated competencies
- Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures
- Experience of supervising residents and of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
Desirable
- Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent accreditation from a recognised overseas
