Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for two full time Speech and Language Therapists to join the Adult Team in BCUHB West area. As a successful applicant you will have the opportunity to work across both community and hospital-based services, providing high-quality communication and dysphagia assessment and intervention to Adults with Acquired Communication and Swallowing Difficulties across Gwynedd and Anglesey. You will work closely with other members of the team to support adults with complex communication and eating/drinking difficulties as part of a holistic, service user centred service and be confident in providing high quality, evidence based assessments and interventions and possess excellent communication and organisational skills.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will have a varied caseload of adults who have acquired communication and/or swallowing difficulties, and who require specialist Speech & Language Therapy in a range of locations across Gwynedd and Anglesey. There will be the opportunity to develop specialist skills in areas such as Head and Neck cancer, progressive neurological conditions, voice, and working within hospital-based multi-disciplinary teams. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of clinical pathways and projects as well as delivering training, supporting and mentoring staff. You will work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy Team Leaders and other staff to continue to drive and shape our services.

You will be part of our supportive and highly skilled team of SLTs and Technical Instructors. Our friendly and forward thinking department has a strong commitment to CPD and regular clinical supervision. Access to specialist training is available via internal and external courses, as well as mentoring, clinical supervision, attendance at regional and national CEN meetings.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised qualification degree/equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • RCSLT Registered
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e/g/ up to date CPD portfolio

Desirable

  • Membership of appropriate clinical network group.
  • Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • A range of clinical experience across Paediatric/Adult SLT services
  • Delegation to non-registered staff
  • Experience in service development/improvement
  • Evidence of attendance on relevant specialist short courses

Desirable

  • Delegation to registered staff
  • Experience of delivering clinical education in area of speciality
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary/multi-professional teams
  • Delivering practice supervision
  • Welsh/English therapy provision

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Reflection and analytical skills
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
  • Welsh/English competency that is compatible with linguistically appropriate assessment and therapy provision
