The Evelina London Children’s Hospital is seeking to appoint a substantive 10 PA consultant post to join the Paediatric Neurosciences department at Evelina London Children’s Hospital . This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly driven team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment. This advert is for one of two substantive Consultant appointments, the arrangement is flexible and applicants with a track record of clinical training and/or definable research interests that complement the specialist components of the posts are invited to apply.

Main duties of the job

• The post-holder will undertake multidisciplinary paediatric neuromuscular clinics at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and will have dedicated sessions to support the provision of acute neuromuscular care within Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
• The post-holder will support the provision of advanced therapies for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) at Evelina London. This includes the provision of intrathecal nurinersen for patients with SMA under this treatment.
• The post-holder will be expected to support the regional clinic model which operates to provide direct referral pathways for children with neurological disorders who are then managed jointly with special interest general paediatricians in the South East Thames region of England.
• The post-holder will participate in the Paediatric Neurology on-call rota for ELCH. This is on an approximate 1 in 9 basis for a week in service. For this on call week all elective activity will be cancelled. Non-resident supervision and attendance will be required for this week.
• The post-holder will contribute to patient care in the neonatal unit by offering inpatient consultations and leading clinics dedicated to infants with hypotonia and potential neuromuscular disorders

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential

• MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
• Eligible for full UK GMC/GDC registration and a License to Practice.
• On GDC/GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Neurology or Paediatric Neurodisability (OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview.)
• Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
• Valid BLS Training

Desirable

• Valid APLS and NLS

Clinical Experience

Essential

• Previous experience of working in a Tertiary Paediatric Neurology Service with regular provision of care for children with complex motor disorders.

Desirable

• Experience of working in a tertiary UK movement therapy centre, offering intervention such as botulinum toxin injections, or patient selection and management of ITB or DBS
• Experience of working in a tertiary neuromuscular centre for at least 12 months
• Experience in the provision of advanced therapies for neuromuscular disorders
• Experience of working in a rehabilitation service

Clinical Skills

Essential

• Clinical skills associated with management of congenital and acquired movement disorders and neuromuscular disorders.
• Experienced at diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including undertaking lumbar punctures

Desirable

• Experience of delivery of intrathecal nusinersen treatment and delivery of gene therapy
• Ability to perform intramuscular Botulinum Toxin A injections

Audit Management & IT

Essential

• Clear track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills
• Understanding of principles of audit.

Research. Teaching skill & experience

Essential

• Track record of research, publications/ presentations / understanding / knowledge of Research ethics.
• Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
