We would like to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Psychology Assistant to work in the Hackney Integrated Learning Disability Service. We are a dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team made up of health and social care practitioners working with people with learning disabilities, their families, carers and supporters in a diverse and vibrant part of London. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative practitioner who is committed to advancing the wellbeing and life chances of people with learning disabilities and addressing health and social care inequalities experienced by this group.

Main duties of the job

You will work directly with people with learning disabilities and their networks under the supervision of a clinical psychologist to deliver psychological assessments and interventions as part of a cohesive multi-disciplinary team. In addition you will help to provide consultation and training to other providers. As part of the role there will be opportunities to participate in innovative research and service development projects. You will receive regular supervision and the service is committed to continuous professional development with access to internal and external training opportunities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1) with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Desirable

  • Masters Degree in Relevant Subject
  • Further training in clinical skills (eg CBT, PBS, ADOS)

Experience

Essential

  • At least 6 months experience working with people with learning disabilities or autism (including lived experience as a family member)

Desirable

  • Experience of working with people who present with behaviours of concern
  • Experience of using standardised psychological and psychometric assessments
  • Experience of conducting service related research and audit

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of research and policy relevant to people with learning disabilities
  • Cultural competence and awareness

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and be flexible
  • Ability to use support and supervision
  • Research skills at post-graduate level

Desirable

  • Fluent in a community language (eg Turkish, Bengali/Sylheti, Vietnamese etc)
  • Skills in working with MDT colleagues
