Surrey Integrated Sexual Health & HIV Services are looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic registered nurses who have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary innovative sexual and reproductive health service.

Main duties of the job

This is a development post for a registered adult nurse. The post holder will follow an individual training programme to develop their nursing knowledge from Band 5 staff nurse to Band 6 senior staff nurse through practical, real time, on the job experience training.

The post holder will be working to deliver a high standard of integrated sexual health care to patients, including delivering nurse led clinics. During the duration of the training programme, the post holder will build knowledge and experience on the types and complexities of patient groups, working towards the Integrated Sexual Health Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse Job Description.

The post holder will be required to work shift patterns that include evenings. The post holder will have the flexibility to work across sites, particularly for training and development opportunities.

The individual training programme will be dependant on skills and qualifications prior to commencing the role. The time frame will be determined by the skill set, speed of achievement of competencies at each stage up to 2 years.

The training programme includes training and assessment of the following competencies and skills:

The post is part time (22hrs) but consideration will be given to suitable candidates who wish to work less part time with a minimum of WTE 0.5 (18.75hrs).

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch)

Desirable

  • Univeristy cert or eqiv in sexual health training
  • DFRSH or eqiv university cert in contaception/reproductive health

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Sexual Health
  • Previous experience in Contraception

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Must have an active interest in this speciality and client group and be motivated to learn about sexual health and contraception
  • IT skills – conversant with windows environment.

Desirable

  • Venepuncture
  • IT skills – word processing (MS word)
  • IT skills – presentations (MS powerpoint)
  • IT skills – Spreadsheets (MS excel)

Abilities

Essential

  • Willingness to undertake all aspects of the development training programme to progress to Band 6
  • Must have the motivation and ability to work with both male and female client groups.
  • The ability to discuss matters of sex and sexuality.
  • The ability to approach clients as a whole.
  • The ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to his/her role/work.
