Job summary
This is a part-time post for a Locum Consultant, fixed term for 12-months, in Dermatology within Mid and south Essex Foundation trust, based at Basildon Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and this vacancy offers excellent opportunities to develop sub-specialist interests
We typically see 5000 new patients and 7000 follow up cases per year. In addition there were over 5,500 attendances for phototherapy last year and 200 patients underwent patch testing.
The department has a specialist registrar post which rotates with Broomfield Hospital. We have close links with the Royal London Hospital where the specialist registrar spends one day per week and all the consultants also attend the combined clinic and academic meetings at the Royal London Hospital. We are involved in teaching VTS trainees and medical students from Bart’s and the London.
The Department participates in the teaching programme for the Diploma in Clinical Dermatology run by the Queen Mary College School of Medicine. We also run other educational events for local general practitioners with whom we enjoy an excellent working relationship.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a 0.78 WTE fixed term Locum consultant in Dermatology to join our friendly and enthusiastic team of 13wte Consultant colleagues. This is sabbatical leave cover post based at Basildon Hospital.
We will support flexible working hours / part-time and will also support any special interest you may wish to develop within the NHS Framework. We are also committed to support any quality improvement projects you may wish to do as part of service improvement within Dermatology.
The department has aspirations to develop into a regional Dermatology specialist centre. Sub-specialist services currently provided include Paediatric Dermatology, Allergy, Dermatological surgery and Dermatopathology, and the department is in the process of developing MOHs Micrographic Surgery.
As a developing regional service Dermatology occupies a prominent position within the management structure of the Trust and has enjoyed significant investment in staffing and facilities over the past 10 years. With further expansion of the catchment area there is scope to further develop the general and sub specialist aspects of the service.
