Job summary

As Consultant Vascular Surgeon, you will join a dynamic multidisciplinary vascular surgical team providing a comprehensive elective and emergency vascular service across York, Scarborough and the wider North Yorkshire area. You will provide inpatient and outpatient vascular assessment, deliver acute and elective open and endovascular intervention, and share 24/7 cover for acute and urgent vascular referrals as a core member of the vascular MDT.

Main duties of the job

To manage the day-to-day care of vascular inpatients at York Hospital.

To provide inpatient and outpatient vascular assessment at York Hospital and spoke sites.

To provide acute and elective operative intervention for patients requiring major vascular surgery.

To provide 24/7 cover for acute and urgent vascular referrals.

To provide elective support for complex surgery with the risk of vascular injury for other surgical specialities.

To be a core member of the vascular MDT.

To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in the management of the breadth of common vascular surgical conditions.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for vascular surgical patients.

Desirable

  • Post CCT Fellowship in area of personal interest.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).

Desirable

  • MD or PhD.
