The Role:

An exciting and innovative opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist (PT) to join the Stroke and Neurosciences Therapy Team has come up under the Annex 21 Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. The role is offered as a 12-month accelerated training and education opportunity to become a Band 7. With successful completion of the competency framework resulting in a permanent position as a Band 7 PT within the Stroke and Neurosciences Team at Newham Hospital.

As per Annex 21, during the 12 months of training, your starting salary represents 75% of the maximum of Band 7. You will remain on 75% pay of the maximum of Band 7 until successful completion of your competencies when you will be moved to 100% of the minimum Band 7 pay.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

o Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical abilities, neurological conditions, and rehabilitation needs.

o Develop tailored treatment plans, utilizing evidence-based techniques and therapeutic interventions.

o Deliver one-on-one and group therapy sessions to enhance patients’ mobility, coordination, strength, and overall function.

o Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Nurses, to provide holistic care.

o Monitor and evaluate patients’ progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.

o Provide education and support to patients and their families, empowering them to actively participate in the rehabilitation process.

o Contribute to the development of departmental policies, protocols, and research initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable

  • Leadership training
  • Post graduate formal qualification relevant to clinical speciality

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post graduate experience on stroke, neurology and respiratory rotations
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • Experience supervising and appraising staff and students.
  • Experience of audit/research
  • Experience of on-call duties

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy in neurology
  • In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group
  • Understand legal responsibilities of the profession and code of ethics

Desirable

  • Fieldwork educators training
  • Involvement in relevant professional special interest group

  • Ability to complete a neuro physical assessment
