Job summary

The 24 Month BSc (Hons) Midwifery Shortened Programme at the London South Bank University aims to produce competent, caring, research and evidence-based midwives, capable of delivering effective woman-centred care for mothers and their families. This full-time programme commences September 2065.

During the 24 Month course, time will be split between the London South Bank University (LSBU) and the Royal London Hospital.

To apply for the course, you will have the following;

An active Adult Nursing Registration (NMC Registration)

Bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing with a minimum of 2:2

Proven post registration experience in a Nursing setting in the UK.

GCSE Maths and English or equivalencies or IELTS 7.0

Main duties of the job

Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery course at London South Bank University (24 months).

The two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery aims to produce competent, caring, autonomous and evidenced-based midwives, capable of delivering effective personalised quality care for mothers, birthing people and their families in any context.

Midwives of the 21st century practice within dynamic, rapidly changing and diverse contexts and require personal, academic and professional skills to practice in an optimum way.

During the two-year course, time will be spent 50% with London South Bank University Southwark and 50% with Barts Health NHS Trust at the Royal London Hospital

Qualifications

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2:2: with a minimum qualification of Diploma in Higher Education with evidence of study at Level 6
  • For applicants whom English is not their first language, they must achieve a minimum score of 7.0 overall or equivalent, with not less than 7.0 in the listening, speaking and reading sections and not less than 6.5 in the writing section for the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) at the time of application OR for the Occupational English Test (OET), they must achieve a minimum grade of B overall or equivalent, with not less than a B in listening, reading and speaking and a C+ in writing.

  • Evidence of relevant CPD courses

Experience

Essential

  • A registered Adult nurse (level 1) with current registration with the NMC and 6- months post registration experience in a adult nursing setting in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience within a maternity setting

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional Midwifery issues. .
  • Able to prioritise care appropriately
  • Understanding of inter-agency working i.e. Child Protection and Domestic Violence
  • Understanding of the principles of EDI within maternity

Desirable

  • Has knowledge of Trust’s Policies and Procedures
  • Understanding of governance and evidence-based practice.
