Clinical Educator Theatres WCH & CIC Band 7 – 37.5 hours available

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking Clinical Educator to join our multidisciplinary team within the Theatre department. This post will involve cross site working at both the West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary. We are looking for a clinician with commitment, flexibility, enthusiasm and excellent clinical skills, that will not only work within a dedicated team but is passionate about developing the theatre workforce.

Main duties of the job

Deliver a comprehensive orientation and induction programme for qualified nursing staff, Allied Health Professionals, assistant practitioners and Health Care Assistants, acting as a clinical role model, working collaboratively to develop and deliver an ongoing programme of training and education for the theatre departments. Contribute to the development of department policies, guidelines and scope of nursing practice.

To be a clinical expert in all levels of Theatre priniciples and to provide “hands on” supervision of staff in clinical practice to promote the acquisition of new skills and knowledge

In conjunction with team leaders and clinical staff of the departments, be responsible for the assessment, supervision and development of all members of the nursing team. To undertake audits and reviews of practice and policies within the unit.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oFirst level Registered Nurse / ODP with active registration.
  • oEducated to degree level in relevant subject area
  • oRecognised training or teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • oSpecialist post registration certificate in clinical speciality or equivalent
  • oCoaching or mentoring qualification

Desirable

  • Leadership certificate or equivalent.
  • Masters level study in a relevant subject or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive clinical practice in the perioperative setting
  • oWell-developed leadership skills
  • oMentoring, coaching and clinical supervision
  • oMonitoring and setting standards
  • oContributing to the development of Trust policies.
  • oChange management experience
  • oExperience of working within a clinical environment across a range of different settings
  • oExperience of designing, delivering and evaluating learning programmes for diverse staff groups
  • oEvidence of developing training packages (online and/or face to face)
  • oExperience of working with groups and individuals from all backgrounds, across all disciplines in a variety of roles and settings
  • oExperience of supporting learners and providing guidance to staff and managers regarding learning
  • oKnowledge of professional requirements related to supporting learners in practice e.g. from NMC and HCPC or other professional bodies
  • oKnowledge of career pathways and practice development initiatives relevant to the health & social care sector

  • Knowledge of Registered Qualifications Framework and Awarding Body Centre requirements
