Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated band 6 Rheumatology nurse to join our friendly team on a 12 months fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge and confidence within Rheumatology while working autonomously and making a real difference to the care of patients living with long term inflammatory conditions.

The role offers a high level of independent clinical working, with responsibility for assessing patients, supporting treatment decisions and providing ongoing monitoring throughout the patient’s treatment journey. You will work closely with patients, developing strong therapeutic relationships and helping them to understand and manage their condition.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the provision of the investigation and management of patients with rheumatological diseases in the North Cumbria Health Community. (to include both acute hospital sites)

In conjunction with and on instruction from Rheumatology specialist nurse(s) and/or Consultants, they will assist in providing nursing intervention, care, advice (lifestyle, disease management), support and education to those including patients diagnosed with rheumatological conditions, their carers, families, General Practitioners, practice nurses, district nurses and ward teams.

Responsible and accountable in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for this client group, the post holder will actively contribute to the development of Rheumatology services across North Cumbria (to include both acute hospital sites) particularly for this client group.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with active registration

Desirable

  • Teaching Qualitification
  • A level of knowledge and competency at level II studies

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a relevant field of nursing
  • Budgetary awareness
  • Previous experience of Clinical Supervision
  • An awareness of the requirements of the post.
  • Able to act as a clinical supervisor
  • Demonstration of continued learning
  • Be aware of, and act in, accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Able to act as a mentor and preceptor as required by the Trust and unit
  • Understanding of professional leadership within area of practice

Desirable

  • Previous experience as mentor to pre-registration nursing students.
  • Rheumatology nursing
  • Knowledge of the speciality.

  • Willingness to travel to other locations in North Cumbria to deliver duties

  • Competence at phlebotomy and injection skills

  • Basic IT skills & willingness to up-skill further if required
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
  • ENB 998 or equivalent course or teaching skills
