Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist with amyeloma/myeloid interest to join a friendly, enthusiastic team at UHDB. This is an 10 PA replacement post joining a large team of consultants. Additional PAs could be discussed upon successful interview.

In-patient therapies are provided on a dedicated, 18 bedded, haematology ward, providing BSH level 2b care, including induction treatment and salvage therapies for AMLs and high-grade lymphomas. We have our own Acute Unit for unwell patients (CTAU) run by advanced clinical practitioners with medical supervision and shared with Oncology.

Our department currently accommodates 5 specialist Registrars from the East Midlands Deanery and 3 specialty Doctors. We have also an established teaching program for medical students from the University of Nottingham and overseas.

Main duties of the job

We are currently looking to recruit a myeloma/myeloid consultant to join the team. This is a full-time post based at the Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Due to the Trust being a merged organisation there is a requirement to work across other sites.

The successful applicant will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing a comprehensive service in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology across Southern Derbyshire and South East Staffordshire, and will play an active part in decision making regarding the re-configuration of services in the Region.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in service development through innovation, restructuring and expansion of clinical trials and access to novel therapies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of MRCP and FRCPath
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • MBBS/MBChB
  • Have CCT or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview and entry on GMC Specialist Register for Haematology by date of commencement OR Evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)

Desirable

  • Additional higher medical/ scientific degree

Teaching, Research & Audit

Essential

  • Experience of & commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and post graduates
  • Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees
  • Evidence of and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
  • Evidence of ability to supervise audid

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Attended a recognised teaching training course
  • Specific teaching qualification
  • Evidence of ability to supervise research

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and the requirements of clinical governance.
  • Experience in making clinical decisions & managing risk.
  • Evidence of independent clinical practice

Desirable

  • Specialist interest in management of myeloma/myeloid patients
  • 1 year NHS experience

Management and Admin Experience

Desirable

  • Attended a management/leadership course
  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
