Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and enterprising candidatesto join a progressive and forward-thinking department of 13consultants, each with their own special interest. We have well-developed services in high-risk obstetrics, minimal access surgery, infertility, colposcopy & out-patient hysteroscopy,uro-gynaecologyand oncology services.

These posts are substantive positions created to support an expansion in consultant numbers. Both posts will include both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The department is currently strengthening its Obstetric and Gynaecology leadership and specialist roles and is keen to consider applicants with a variety of interests.

This role is located at Kettering General Hospital and all work will be completed on site or at peripheral clinics.

The candidate should be keen to work as part of a team, continuing to develop good relationships with other staff within and outside the Clinical Management Team. The appointee will be expected to live within 30 minutes travelling time from the hospital.

Main duties of the job

There is ongoing considerable site development at Kettering General Hospital. The theatre suite for Obstetrics & Gynaecology underwent redevelopment in February 2016. Building work is in the early stagesfor the new Rockingham Wing which will provide new facilities for Obstetric and Gynaecology services.

There is a thriving and well-equipped Post Graduate Education centre including a new, large, modern library, seminar rooms, and lecture theatre.

ANTENATAL SCREENINGWe offer a full range of prenatal screening services including early dating scans, Nuchal Translucency and biochemical screening. We offer CVS as well as Amniocentesis. The Fetal Medicine Service is supported byConsultants from University Hospital of Leicester (attending 2 clinics per week). A Consultant Clinical Geneticist who covers the county supports the genetic services. There are on site prenatal counselling facilities with a specialist midwife and the service is offered to all women as part of their routine antenatal care.THEATRESThere are two large and fully equipped state of the art theatres opened in February 2016. One is for routine gynaecology and the second theatre for Obstetrics. A third theatre is used for emergencies for obstetrics and gynaecology.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC

Desirable

  • ATSM in Special Interest Subject e.g. Labour Ward Lead
  • Colposcopy and/or Hysteroscopy and/or USS
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC

Clinical exp & effectiveness

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or Equivalent
  • Interest in Clinical Audit and evidence of completed audits in CV
  • Interest in Governance
  • Ambulatory gynaecology
  • Ultrasound Skills

Desirable

  • ATSM in Specialist Interest Subject Eg:Maternal medicine, High Risk Pregnancy, Obstetric Medicine
