Main duties of the job

The service provides community based occupational therapy to children with additional and complex health needs, working closely with other professionals involved in the child’s care. We are part of a multi-agency team, which includes physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and nurses; providing specialist services to children and young people 0-19 years of age, which enables plenty of scope for integrated working. Within occupational therapy we have a number of care pathways; there are opportunities to work with children with moderate to complex physical needs as well children referred with developmental and/or neurodevelopmental conditions, such as, DCD, ASD, and ADHD. We invite applicants who would like to work across all areas as well as those who have a particular field of interest. There will be an opportunity for all staff to be involved with the progression of universal and targeted levels of intervention, including the development of advice and training to educational settings.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist who has had significant experience of working with children and young people with additional needs. They will be committed to provide a holistic therapeutic and multi-agency approach to children and their families. Applicants will demonstrate excellent communication skills and be keen to work as a member of an integrated team.

Experience

Essential

  • oSignificant experience of working with children with additional and/or complex needs
  • oExperience working collaboratively with other agencies, e.g. education, social care, voluntary sector
  • oEvidence of current and ongoing Continuous professional development
  • oExperience of managing or supervising therapy assistants and technical instructors
  • oPrevious experience gained in an appropriate setting

Knowledge

  • oChild development and common complex conditions
  • oGood working knowledge of therapy processes and theoretical models
  • oChild Protection processes and procedures
  • oEarly Help Assessment Framework
  • oUnderstanding of evidence based practice and the implications for clinical practice.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • oBSc (Hons) or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • oHealth Professions Council Registration
  • o Post Registration qualifications in related subject areas i.e. Developmental Coordination Disorder.
