Well we have an exciting opportunity for two full-time band 5 posts at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana Princes of Wales Hospital Grimsby, with the opportunity for some cross- site cover.

These post will give you the opportunity to work as part of our acute and community stroke team as well as provide input to more general caseloads with acute and community patients. We offer several specialist services including Rehabilitation Medicine, Head and Neck Oncology and Voice, with access to our SLT led Videofluoroscopy and FEES services. The caseload will involve rehabilitation for both swallowing and communication. Post qualification in dysphagia is desirable, however, training and supervision towards the management and treatment and of dysphagia will be offered. The applicant will need to have access to transport and the ability to safely transport themselves and equipment around the required geographical area during the course of their working day.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of Speech and Language Therapy service undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. To work as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy team to provide a comprehensive therapeutic service for inpatients and outpatients. To manage a defined caseload of patients using evidence-based/patient-centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, including discharge planning and facilitation. To participate in providing a specialist service comprising assessment, management and treatment, to adults with disorders of communication. To participate in providing a specialist service comprising assessment, management and treatment, to adults with disorders of feeding and swallowing, when post-basic dysphagia level competencies have been reached. Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy (or equivalent)
  • Registered with HCPC (or application lodged)

Desirable

  • Member of the RCSLT
  • Experience in dysphagia and/ or qualification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of working in acute settings

Desirable

  • Member of communication and/or dysphagia special interest group

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Highly motivated, reliable with excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Able to work as part of of a team

Desirable

  • Able to deal with challenging situations

Other Requirements

Essential

  • Ability to travel between hospital sites and/ or in the community as required.
