Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) are
seeking enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapists to join our
Occupational Therapy teams and innovative Experts at Hand programme.
North Devon: 0.8 WTE
These roles are embedded within CFHD’s Physical
and Sensory Pathway, a large multidisciplinary service bringing together
Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy to improve
outcomes for children and young people across Devon.
The Experts at Hand programme is an innovative
model supporting children, families and educational settings through
consultation, coaching, training and targeted intervention. Successful
applicants will help shape this exciting service while remaining connected to
established children’s therapy teams.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist you will:
- Assess, advise and provide intervention for
children and young people with functional, developmental and sensory processing
needs. - Manage a defined caseload under the supervision of senior Occupational
Therapists. - Work collaboratively with children, families, educational settings and
partner agencies to support participation, independence and achievement of
goals. - Provide advice, support and training to parents, carers, schools and
professionals. - Contribute to delivery of the Experts at Hand model by supporting inclusive
practice and capacity building within education settings. - Work within a multidisciplinary team alongside Occupational Therapists,
Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Practitioners. - Maintain accurate clinical records and work in line with professional,
organisational and legal requirements.
Participate in supervision, mandatory training and continuing professional
development activities. - Contribute to service development, quality improvement and evaluation of
outcomes.
Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people at all
times.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of significant and relevant CPD
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Member of professional Body (RCOT)
Experience
Essential
- To work within trust clinical guidelines and Royal College of OT and HCPC standards. To have working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own quality and safety of practice
- Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice and how they can be implemented
- Knowledge of a wide range of Occupational Therapy assessment tools relevant to a broad range of identified needs in the paediatric population
- Knowledge and use of Occupational Therapy evidence-based practice and outcome measures
- Knowledge of legislation affecting clinical practice e.g. SEND
- Knowledge of normal child development and a broad range of paediatric conditions
- Community based Occupational Therapy experience
- Experience of working with children/young people and families
Desirable
- Evidence of working as an autonomous practitioner
- Experience of working with individuals and families with communication needs
