Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Whole-Time Consultant Spinal Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital. Depending on service pressures, there may be the requirement to work offsite in the future.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of elective and emergency spinal surgery services at the Northern General Hospital site. The appointee will also hold an Honorary Consultant position at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital to allow for the on-call management of paediatric spinal cases as necessary.
The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified medical practitioner
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a license to practice
- FRCS (Tr &Orth) or equivalent
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.

Clinical experience
Essential
- Spinal Fellowship
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the Spine Surgery.
- Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the speciality, including evidence of sub-speciality training.

- Evidence of participation or enthusiasm for audit
- Management skills
- Previous experience at consultant level
Research
Essential
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
