Job summary
The purpose of this role is to work within a multidisciplinary team to provide an alcoholand drug assessment and treatment service as part of an alcohol care team, and toprovide a nurse led assessment service to the liver transplant programme. The serviceworks across The Royal Free and Barnet sites and is available 7 days a week.
Post holders will work under the guidance and supervision of a Lead Nurse forAddictions (Lead Nurse Drug and Alcohol service)
Working with patients who have been referred to the alcohol liaison service you willfirst assess and then provide evidence-based brief and extended brief interventionssuch as relapse prevention, motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviouraltherapy. Nurse prescribers will have the opportunity to develop their practice and theservice as we look to set up a 7 day a week ambulatory alcohol detox service.
All team members will be required to maintain good internal and external relationships, offering advice and expert opinion on patient management. You will provide teaching on your specialist area to teams across the hospital. You will design, implement and carry out research, audit and outcome measurement within the service and to analyse outcome data.

Educational & Profressional
Essential
- 1 st level of registration RMN / RN Adult
- Relevant 1st Degree or evidence of relevant post registration substance misuse education/qualification.
- Master’s level education or willingness to work towards.
- Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards
Desirable
- Mentoring & Teaching qualification
- Relevant counselling courses
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of substance misuse nursing
- A significant period at Band 6, providing nursing management and support to patients with alcohol/drug problems
- Experience of providing alcohol and/or drug liaison nursing within acute hospital setting
- Significant mental health nursing experience
Desirable
- Hepatology experience
- Experience of teaching and presenting to a multi disciplinary team
