Job Summary

The purpose of this post is to work as part of the Community Mental Health Service to carry out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of the qualified Home Treatment staff. It encompasses the intensive psychosocial intervention, support and treatment to patients in the community in the acute phase of a mental health crisis as an alternative to inpatient care. The Home Treatment Team operates from 8 am to 8pm for 7 days a week, but this post is from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday only. There may be some flexibility .

Main duties of the job

We are looking for experienced, focused individuals, who are highly motivated with excellent communication skills. Community Services are becoming fast paced and rapidly changing to support the ‘Out of Hospital Care’ strategies, you will therefore need to demonstrate resilience in the ability to adapt to the changing landscape and opportunities as the service develops. A key element of this role is to ensure that service users and carers receive an excellent service/experience

The Home Treatment Team is well supported by a good leadership and admin system and offers an excellent work environment. The team has good links with local statutory and non-statutory services. We are based in the Wealdstone area of Harrow, which has easy links to Central London and good local transport connections. The team works closely with Ellington Ward (Bedded unit) based in Northwick Park Hospital.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to aid assessment, plan and implement care
  • Ability to use initiative, remain calm and controlled when under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

OTHER

Essential

  • Understanding of the meaning of ‘Equal Opportunity’
  • Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality
  • IT skills i.e. Microsoft word, Email, Internet

Desirable

  • Car Driver and access to own transport

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Previous experience in elderly care, gained at home, work or a voluntary basis

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with older adults with mental health problems or in a care setting

Educational and Qualification

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Educated to Secondary level or equivalent, with GCSE’s in English and Maths

Desirable

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent
