Job Summary

We have a new opportunity for a B4 Occupational Therapy assistant (OTA) post within our Milton Keynes Community mental health HUB. This is an excellent position for someone who wishes to gain experience in community mental health.

We are looking for some with an excellent interpersonal skill, passion and an ability to demonstrate reliability and commitment to team working.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join the Occupational Therapy team. Duties are varied and you will work with experienced Occupational Therapists who will provide guidance and support to develop the skills required to plan and implement groups and one to one session with focus to improve and enable everyday activities for the service users.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will work within the Milton Keynes community Mental Health Team, alongside the Occupational Therapists as part of the MDT.

They will practice within the Community Mental Health HUB setting with an appropriate level of supervision from a qualified Occupational Therapist. The goal is to maximise service users quality of life, social inclusion and independence, by encouraging their skills and promoting autonomy in order to give them and their family hope for the future.

To plan, implement and review a range of activities using individual and group work approaches, under the supervision and direction of qualified occupational therapists.

To support service users to engage in care plans which have been developed in partnership with the individual and that reflect recovery goals.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good general education up to GCSE/ A level standard / NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment
  • Previous experience as an OTA, Activity Co-ordinator or have worked under OT superivison
  • Mental Health Experience
  • Previous NHS Experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • IT literate
  • Ability to relate to individuals and groups
  • Full driving license in order to use unit vehicle

Desirable

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Recognises developmental needs
