Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Mortuary team. This post will be based at Whitechapel but on occasion the successful candidate may be required to visit any of the other sites. The post holder will be required to assist in all aspects of Mortuary Services including post mortem provision for adults, perinatal/paediatric cases and care of the deceased.You will be the dedicated training lead for the trainee APT’s ensuring they reach the standard required to pass the level 3 diploma. Main duties of the job

The mortuary services at ESEL comprise of one mortuary facility based at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel , Barts Health have 4 other deceased holding units at St Bartholomew’s, Newham, Whipps Cross and Mile End.

The Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics Division provides diagnostic and screening services for the whole of North East London. Our facilities are close to underground and DLR services. The Mortuary service performs approximately 200 post mortems Per annum and is regional referral centre for perinatal cases. The Mortuary is HTA accredited. The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE. Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 4 Diploma or Equivalent in Anatomical Pathology Technology issued by RSPH
  • Demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of Mortuary processes
  • Understands and applies principles of internal quality assurance and contro
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT aspects of analytical equipment and Laboratory Information Systems
  • Commitment to Continued Professional Development

Experience

Essential

  • Substantive experience in an HTA accredited Mortuary
  • Able to perform all relevant manual and automated tasks in the department
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and national health and safety policies

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of local and national health and safety policies

Skills

Essential

  • Competent in Mortuary and Post mortem techniques and troubleshooting
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and present routine data/results/concepts
  • Working knowledge of a word processing, spreadsheet packages and databases
  • Computer literate with intermediate keyboard skills.
