Job Summary

We are looking for a Pharmacy Assistant/Senior Pharmacy Assistant to work primarily at Foss Park Hospital in York.

The successful applicant will work with a team of Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists to provide a comprehensive pharmacy service to York, Selby and North Yorkshire.

The successful applicant will be part of a small friendly team who are committed to providing an excellent pharmacy service to our service users and wards.

The vacancy is open to someone who already holds the relevant qualifications. To be appointed as a Band 3 you must hold – Medicines Counter Assistant Qualification (e.g. NPA or equivalent) or NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services and be willing to work towards and complete a trust competency framework.

Alternatively, this is an opportunity for a development role from a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant transferring to a Band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant upon completion of a nationally recognised Pharmacy Services course in addition to the trust competency framework.

Main duties of the job

To assist, under supervision, with routine duties of a technical nature, including the supply and distribution of medicines to trust wards, departments and team bases

To visit designated wards and departments to provide a ward stock topping up service as per the ward rota working to pharmacy standard processes.

To support the pharmacy team through the provision of clerical and administrative work.

To order medication for ward stock to maintain stock supplies.

To be able to competently dispense an array of medication from a variety of order forms

To be responsible for a range of technical duties in the dispensaries to aid in the smooth and efficient running of the department

To work together with the other pharmacy colleagues, in the dispensaries and wards, to provide patients with an accurate and timely supply of medication from admission through to discharge

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

To promote at all times a positive image of both the Pharmacy department and profession and the wider Trust.

About us

We are a relatively small team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy assistants. The primary focus of our team is to put our patients at the centre of our practice to ensure that they have the best possible experience.

The pharmacy team at Foss Park Hospital supply medications to a large geographical area including York, Scarborough, Malton, Selby, and Harrogate and there would be a requirement for travel for the successful applicant to support the teams.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic general education. GCSE grade D or above in English and Maths

Desirable

  • NVQ in pharmacy services level 2 (or equivalent) or willing to work towards

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills – both oral and written including good telephone manner
  • Ability to work under supervision, and independently as appropriate

Desirable

  • Able to demonstrate good organisational and time management skills
  • An ability to receive, interpret, analyse and deliver information

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in patient or customer care

Desirable

  • Experience of dispensing and stock control work within a pharmacy
  • Experience of working in a hospital/community pharmacy
  • Experience of working in a stock management environment

  • Ability to travel independently in accordance with Trust policies and service need.
